We are a charitable organization in West Bengal, India. We are located near Nischintapur in the Sundarban area, District South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. We focus on uplift of the community through Education, Skill Development, Social Welfare and Entrepreneurial Development.
We run two schools in the area. Our primary school is coeducational. Boys and girls from the age of four join the primary school and continue till class four.
The high school called Keoratala Basanabala Girls High School has classes five to ten. It is only for girls. The curriculum followed is that of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
The students in our schools are also taught computer skills. The high school has a computer center where regular classes are held to teach computer literacy and use of popular software. The students in the primary school too are provided computer literacy at the computer center there. The very young children use tablets to get accustomed to digital media.
Girls in the high school get opportunities to participate in musical programs like singing and dancing. We encourage sports, games and yoga practices.
We have several programs for skill development for women in the area. These include courses on computers, sewing, embroidery, tailoring, beautician, General Duty Assistant (GDA) etc.
In collaboration with other organizations like Adarsh Foundation, we conduct regular Eye Camps in the surrounding areas. People get their vision checked. For those needing corrective lenses, we provide spectacles at a very low cost. Those detected with cataract are helped to get cataract removed and fitted with intraocular lenses free of cost. We arrange for transportation to the hospital free of cost.
We organize regular blood donation camps for collection of much needed blood for various Blood Banks.
We distribute sanitary napkins at easily accessible places at a low cost.
We provide safe drinking water by digging tubewells in the villages nearby.
In collaboration with Adarsh Foundation, we have provided micro financing to help some folks start their business in transportation and agriculture. We have provided rickshaw vans, agricultural tools like power tiller. We helped start a farm for Pan (betel leaf).
On the occasion of 75 years of independence, 75 van rickshaws or cycle van have been distributed among 75 needy people under the initiative of Adarsh Foundation and the Samiti. E-Rickshaws (TOTO) have been distributed with the help of Adarsh Foundation.

Our Mission encompasses both the education of girls and improvement of the economy and culture of the region. To accomplish this we,
The Primary School and the Girls’ High School are in different buildings in separate locations. The sewing program and the beautician programs are conducted in the Keoratala Skill Development Center adjacent to the Primary School building.
We have a Mini Theatre Hall in the Girls’ High School. The Manimala Digital Center is also in the Girls’ High School. The “D J Shah & J N Shah Dormitory” mainly for schedule tribes and schedule caste girls is sponsored by a benevolent donor. It accommodates 60 girls of various ages in the same building.
There are two lady supervisors in the dormitory for the girls. We also employ a security guard for the Girls’ High school. A senior physician, Dr Shobhana Thakkar regularly checks the health of the girls and provides nutritional supplements and other necessary medications.
Each school has a library of its own. We are expanding the selection of books in the library.
Currently, the primary school enrolls 72 boys and girls from pre-kindergarten to class four. The high school has 142 girls from class five to class ten. There are 9 teachers at the primary school and 15 teachers in the secondary school. The Primary School is headed by a Head Mistress and the Girls’ High School is headed by a Headmaster.

The students’ learning experience is enhanced through e-learning. Competent teachers from Kolkata conduct online classes. Special coaching is offered to class IX and class X students for additional preparation for their Madhyamik examination. Students completing their Madhyamik are encouraged to join a higher secondary school for further education. We offer a financial incentive through one-time or regular scholarships.
We do not charge any fees for the Keoratala Basanabala Girls High School. There is a small Rs 200 per month fee for the primary school. The dormitory is free. Girls in the dormitory are provided with a morning snack, breakfast at 10 am, midday lunch, evening snack and dinner. Toiletries, towels, etc. and other necessary items are provided free of cost. All students in primary and the Girls’ High School are provided with a midday meal. We provide books, notebooks, uniforms and study materials.
Our students come from nearby as well as remote areas in the Sundarban area of South 24 Parganas district. Students from remote places are housed in the dormitory. We serve students from low income families and most of them are from scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and Adibasis.
“Keoratala Krishi O Goraksha Samiti” was established in 1997, inspired by Shri Vinoba Bhave. It was initially set up to organize “The Goraksha Movement” with the help of Shri Ratan Mistri and some local well wishers.
A primary school called “Keoratala Sarbodaya Shishu Shiksha Niketan” was started for the young children of the locality in year 2000. Later in year 2002, a girls’ school named “Keoratala Basanabala Girls’ High School” was established with the initiative of “The Bhowanipur Gujarati Education Society ” especially Shri Jethalal Shah and Shri Ramesh Bhai Shah at a cost of Rupees 40 Lacs. Shri Ratan Mistri and Shri Gorachand Bhowmick donated 1 bigha of land to establish this school. It is the one and only girls’ school in this locality. The schools are run by “Keoratala School Sahajogita Samiti” and are in need of financial support.
